I loved all of your pictures last year and I'm excited to see all of your new work! I've never been to a Christmas Tree Farm but I remember my parents bringing home a Christmas Tree every year. It was always so exciting and we would all decorate it together. It was one of the rare times that we were all together and spending time as a family. After we decorated the tree we would all play cards at the kitchen table. Thanks for reminding me of these great memories.

Gotta agree, I never shop on Black Friday if I can help it. I'm probably amazon.com's best customer. Like Timmy, I prefer the comfort of my armchair.

So I wish you and all retail workers polite customers and peaceful days. And for those shoppers who just have to complain... shut the heck up!

black friday is also known as BUY NOTHING DAY. it was started 20 years ago by ADBUSTERS magazine. it is now recognized world wide as a day of protest against the big corporate machine. i have not spent money (except in local food establishments) on black friday in 18 years! make you own gifts. or buy from a local crafts person. keep the money local and your community will be stronger!

I know if everyone were like me retail would be out of a job and UPS would be hiring like mad. Maybe I'm missing something but I love Black Friday from den computer chair. Amazon has sales all this week. But yes indeed, have mercy on the poor souls who work the stores this day.

"I do not need to buy everything today." You have 26 days to find the best gifts. (If you can not find in 26 days it is possible to buy more than you think over in the missing? To go and to be less than complete.) Agree with the ideas here.

how many days? My list is small this year, and some gifts are made and will be given during a family gathering the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'm finishing up a quilt that will be given the first weekend of Dec... and then I'm done. Online orders are on their way... and definitely no Black Friday shopping for me!

I love amazon.com. I do most of my shopping around Dec. 15 from the comfort of my own chair. Plus we have to get through Thanksgiving, thankfully not here, Betsy's birthday the day after Thanksgiving, and then moving MIL in.

*sigh*

I hate the holidays. : (

Thanks for reading, and your response.....
there is not a thing wrong with being hypocritical, unless you cant admit it!! LOL

Chances are I will be spending more money and making less things than I have any right to be doing, considering where this blog has veered this autumn!!!!

Trish

Delightfully written thoughtful post.
Yes, I am a bit hypocritical. We put the grandkids art on the frig, but we "rotate" it often. Rotation sometimes involves a trip to the recyling bin.
My MIL on the other hand, a woman of exquisite taste, kept things on view that she admitted she hated because one of her kids bought them or made them for her. After they sold the family home, a handwoven linen pillow (from my second warp) and a macrame giraffe (one of many I made in the 70's) came back to me. I think the giraffe went in the trash immediately, the pillow I saved.

WHAT A WONDERFUL THING TO HAVE HAPPEN. I think the return of a long gone piece is a beautiful reason for putting idenitfying info on a piece. Name and address will bring it home even if art wasn't with family.

How wonderful the wall hanging found it's way home!
One of the most precious gifts I've received is tissue holder, the other a mini rocking chair. My 1st born son made the tissue holder using plastic canvas, small enough to fit in my purse. He carefully folded tissues so they would pull out properly, he was 9. The mini rocking chair was made out of wooden pinch clothes pins (from my basket), made by my second son who was 8. The thought that went into to those gifts still touch my heart even after 28 years!

hmmm...it is too bad that people have had such a traumatizing time with a store...I repeat, a store...we are fortunate to live in a country where we have the choice to not shop at only one store...or to be able to run right down and take advantage of a sale, or to sit in our jammies at anytime of the day or night and shop online..., but best of all to participate in opportunities to freely express ourselves...let's just once in awhile think about what it must be like for folks on the other side of those store doors...who make their living there all the while defending why they choose to work there, let alone shop there. Free choice... I think that was a gift from someone who knew where it might lead us, but hoped it would bring out the best, and not the worst in each of us.

After my Christmas implosion in the parking lot at Wally World I was pretty much done. I have been back on occasion since but only out of desperate need...and have found that even then those needs are not met. I suppose if I ever was the kind who shopped in bulk I would go to Sam's Club, but even then I cant envision myself "paying" for the privilege to shop somewhere.

hmmmmm.
..and I thought I was the only one around who wouldn't shop at wally world. I used to go there for "loss leaders" for back to school, but didn't even do THAT this year. Soooooo.... they last time "I" passed through their doors was August of '08. Yeah. I can do with them! Ebay, Etsy, festivals and consignment shops are my friends. OH! ...and I can't forget Goodwill! :)

..and I thought I was the only one around who wouldn’t shop at wally world. I used to go there for “loss leaders” for back to school, but didn’t even do THAT this year. Soooooo…. they last time “I” passed through their doors was August of ‘08. Yeah. I can do with them! Ebay, Etsy, festivals and consignment shops are my friends. OH! …and I can’t forget Goodwill!

Thanks Anita!
I agree. There are the two different 'ways' if you will. You can see it in the gifting... people go overboard for some people and then get so incredibly generic and unthoughtful on others that if gifting is all at once it becomes embarrasingly obvious.
(Don't ask me how I know!)

I am going to try to continue the Christmas theme in my blogs thru the season....

Trish

Yes, I think I could do it. I remember being given $5.00 to do my Christmas shopping when I was a child. My list included my parents, 3 brothers and sister, Mom still has some of those costume jewelry pieces! Thanks for stirring up memories. If only more individuals would come to understand it isn't the price of the gift but the thought and love that went into it.

I did a communication with Dale and Squirrel concerning their names. Squirrel does not mind, he thinks it will be fine. Dale does NOT understand why you would want to change his name. He says he is old and will not answer to a new name.
Squirrel likes his new man and wanted to know if he can stay there with you from now on. I told him that he could and not to worry.
Dale is happy that there are no dogs in the house.

things definitely will go bump in the night! You might have a "free for all" when the three meet.
Good luck with the acclimation process.
